“So Long, Review The Past”

Hello there!
This time around, I’ve got some actual music tracks (MP3) that I recorded this evening for a melody that’s been in my head for years, which I haven’t really ever bothered to develop. Not that I spent such an inordinate amount of time this evening actually developing it… but I thought this kind of quiet treatment, building up a bit while still keeping the same melodic phrase and chordal structure might work.
Was it ever supposed to be easy?
I started out with Logic Express on this as before, and recorded the piano track from my Roland JV-90 to an audio track. After that, however, due to monitoring loopback troubles (evidently a product of my inefficient wiring setup, or perhaps my lack of understanding of the workings of Logic Express), I ended up laying down the string track as a MIDI-controlled track (with Logic Express controlling the JV-90), and then added the bell melody as a software instrument.
And… and…?
If this wasn’t convoluted enough, I couldn’t figure out how to mix down the three tracks into a pair of stereo audio tracks, and also found that Logic Express couldn’t save as MP3 (woe!). So, I ended up just mixing the tracks down onto my Sharp mini-disc (MD) recorder, and then bouncing that to Audacity on the Mac and finally exporting to MP3. The whole thing is most definitely a lot more complicated than it needs to be, but I really have not taken the time to work out how all of this could be done in the software world instead of switching wires around.
So… while the music is restful (albeit incomplete in terms of a full-length song), the whole digital production thing is still a serious challenge. Day 4 of my creative exploration project, and already I’m feeling the burn… heh.
It’s been diverting, though. Hope you enjoy what I’ve created this evening.
